After a short Christmas break in the Lake District Adele is heading back to Mt Kenya. In 2009 Adele climbed Neilion but did not cross the gates through to Batian due to bad weather. This time Adele is heading off with three experienced climers and one trekker to reascend Neilion and hopefully top out on the highest peak in Kenya.

A proper Scottish winter day 17th Dec Ginny and Adele back in the Coire after their wild day on the ridge. At 4pm yesterday Adele and Ginny decided to go East to the Cairngorms. Arriving at Aviemore YHA at 10pm , there was only time to have a brew before bedding down. The forecast was looking good and the plan to go into Core –nan Sneacda executed in the morning. The promise of excellent visibility was not quite happening and teams were already returning from the white abyss, unable to find their routes. Following a quick chat with the Scarborough boys Adele and Ginny turned through 90 degrees and headed up the boulder strewn slope to the Ficall Ridge. Not too windy and warm in their Goretex armour the ridge provided plenty of entertainment. Navigating back down to the top of the goat track the wind forced them back but with a bit of determination and will power Ginny and Adele got though this barrier and descended into the Coire wondering what all the fuss had been about. The coire was full of people practicing their winter skills and enjoying the snow. Food was of more interest for Ginny and Adele before they strolled out enjoying the only views of the day as the setting sun turned the sky pink.
