Sneaky day out in the Lakes 26th Jan

Blencathra
With everything ready and packed to head North it seemed a shame to miss the Lakeland snow. Rising early we tried to get up the Winlatter pass to go and climb at a secret crag, Road CLOSED. The plan was then changed to take a visit to Brown Cove Crags. Exiting Keswick another sign to Dunmail Raise read Road CLOSED. The next plan was to return to an old favorite and to do a circuit of Blencathra. Not disappointed the sun shone and we enjoyed a good winter romp.

Day Off in Rjukan 19th Jan
Although it was not an official day of work, Adele Colin and Roger decided to take a trip to the summit of Gaustatoppen (1883m), not only to walk up the mountain but also to get sme sun shine.
After three and half hours we topped out along a fantastic snowy ridge.

Return to Krokan

Roger on Bullen
This was our last day on the ice and Colin and Roger tried their arms at some steeper ice. It was warmer and we managed to spend most of the day practising our technique and working hard until the arms would take no more.

Very happy with the week that met all their expectations there had to be one last visit to the coffee shop.

Warm at minus 11 in Rjukan 17th Jan

Roger practising his ice screw placements.
Yesterday it was much warmer with the thermometer reading just minus 11 degrees centrigrade. No visit to Rjukan is complete, without a visit to the Upper Gorge.
Starting out early we climbed Norde Rjukanfossen ( WI3) making it into two pitches so that Roger and Colin got their first eperience of multipitch ice. After exploring the upper gorge further we spent the last hour practising putting in and taking out ice screws and making abalokofs.
